What I Do:
Guiding your student through high school and college can be daunting. Let me come alongside during this process and help you determine what is most important to your student and your family in order to find a good college match. I work virtually with students throughout the US and in person with students in Northern Virginia, including Fairfax, Burke, Springfield, Arlington, Alexandria, Prince William County, and Loudoun County.
There is not just one perfect college out there, and an individual student’s college list should not be formed around popular rankings. I help students and families define their own priorities for college and identify colleges that are a great match academically, socially, and financially. As an Independent Educational Consultant (IEC), I don’t “get students into college.” Instead I help students and families understand the admissions process and equip them to make informed decisions about where to apply. I assist students in completing applications, so that admissions offices understand the strengths they would bring to an incoming class. My goal is to give students confidence that they are presenting themselves fully and applying to schools where they feel at home.
Who I Am:
I love education, from working directly with students, to encouraging parents searching for resources, to reading recent research and education policy articles. In my own undergraduate experience, I studied subjects as varied as Calculus and Chaucer, Thermodynamics and Creative Writing, Naval Architecture and Modern Literature. My education fed my curiosity about the world and how people think about and communicate their experiences, challenges, and aspirations. My experience in the military taught me poise and persistence under pressure. My time mentoring students in a variety of disciplines and settings underscored that there isn’t just one path to success.
I support the IECA Principles of Good Practice and follow PCACAC and NACAC professional standards.
